San Diego Strip Clubs: Two Arrested In Gambling Raids At Internet Cafes, 10News.com
June 27, 2009 at 9:00 am | In San Diego strip clubs | No Comments… Agents from my office shut down Internet cafes in Stockton and San Diego that are a cover for illegal gaming operations,” Brown said. “These are unregulated and illegal gambling parlors, operating Las Vegas-style games in violation of the law.”
Beginning in early June, undercover agents entered establishments in San Diego and Stockton and played various Las Vegas-style games on computers at Internet cafes, according to the attorney general.
Agents purchased a card that allowed them “Internet time” on the cafe’s computers. If they won, an on-site employee paid them in cash, according to the attorney general.
In San Diego, agents raided Cafe Hong Hung, `08 Wireless, Cafe 2000, Phnom Penh Video and `05 Billiards. In total, agents seized 21 video slot machines and about $13,000 in cash.
In Stockton, agents raided the Lucky Deja Vu Internet Cafe and the Deja Vu topless bar and seized 98 computer terminals, two master computer servers, money machines and business records, plus more than $4,000 in cash.

San Diego Adult Entertainment: Lawyers: Jurors tend to back cops
June 27, 2009 at 5:49 am | In San Diego adult entertainment | No CommentsAdding to the difficulty for prosecutors was the fact that both White and Chaney — who is no longer with the San Diego police — were well-regarded officers. “It seems like whenever you prosecute a cop for a shooting, you never get one who is a little shady,” he said.
Not all such trials end in acquittal, of course. Former California Highway Patrol Officer Craig Peyer was convicted of murdering Kara Knott and is serving a life term in prison. It took two trials to convict him, however.
Currently, District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis has filed charges against former CHP officer Abram Carbajal, who is accused of fixing a traffic ticket in exchange for sex. And sheriff’s Detective Thomas Sadler is facing trial on charges of sexually assaulting a prostitute while on duty.

San Diego Escorts: Comics joke on Sanford
June 26, 2009 at 2:12 am | In San Diego escorts | No Comments… Anybody here from South Carolina? Their governor down there, Mark Sanford disappears. He’s gone for four days. The first time he said he was hiking the Appalachian Trail. OK, I’m just dumb enough to believe that. Then he says, ‘No, no, no, forget the Appalachian Trail. I was in South America.’ Now, I’m not sure I’m with him. Today he said he woke up in Las Vegas, hung over with a tiger and a baby.
But now it turns out that he was in Argentina with another woman. A married guy, got a family, he’s in Argentina with another woman. And here’s what I want to know — why can’t he be like our former governor and use a local escort service? What’s the problem? (Reference to former N.Y. Gov. Eliot Spitzer who resigned after a scandal involving a prostitute-ring.)
San Diego Adult Entertainment: Charges filed in fatal hit-run involving local cyclist
June 26, 2009 at 12:13 am | In San Diego adult entertainment | No CommentsPolice originally cited Marcum for misdemeanor DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, but those charges were withdrawn pending further review.
“We are doing everything we can to make sure we prosecute this case appropriately given the end result – that a man lost his life,” Hudspeth said.
Marcum was being held in jail on $100,000 bail, Hudspeth said.
Gafney, 65, a former Navy man and retired computer engineer who had worked at Camp Pendleton, was killed about 12:40 a.m. as he was riding his bike east on U.S. Route 50, about 60 miles east of St. Louis, Illinois State Police said.
He had left his home April 27 on what he had dubbed his “Mad As Hell Bike Ride Across U.S.” He was gathering signatures protesting what he called “taxation without representation” by politicians he referred to as “Obama prostitutes.”
San Diego Massage Parlors: Foodie news
June 25, 2009 at 10:00 pm | In San Diego massage parlors | No CommentsNo, it’s not a massage parlor. University Heights’ new Loving Hut (1905 El Cajon Blvd.) is the latest outpost of a vegan restaurant chain that has other locations in California and Asia. The menu features mostly Asian-style dishes made hearty with mushrooms, soy proteins, tofu and yam-flour-based dough. This local shop opened to huge crowds last weekend, and I’m looking forward to trying vegan versions of Vietnamese noodle soup favorites, including pho and spicy bun hue.
Laurel in Bankers Hill served its last dinner last weekend, at least in its previous incarnation. The restaurant’s doors are closed temporarily for construction as it revamps the entire concept, from menu to design, with plans to reopen later this month with a new name and a more casual, Italian-influenced menu. Another new Italian option in the neighborhood is Pizzacato (2420 Fifth Ave.) a small chain that originated in Portland serving gourmet pizzas, paninis and salads.

SAN DIEGO — A car thief pretending to be a parking valet outside a strip club took the keys to a patron’s car and stole it, police said.
A customer pulled up outside the Pure Platinum bar on Pacific Highway about 9:30 p.m. Saturday and turned his keys over, expecting the man to safely park his car. Then he watched as the thief drove off on Laurel Street, said San Diego police Officer Brad Ruff.
An officer spotted the car less than 10 minutes later on Interstate 5 heading towards Mexico. The officer called for backup and made the arrest on the 125 Freeway near Sweetwater Reservoir, after following the alleged thief for about 20 minutes, Ruff said.

San Diego Adult Entertainment: Death penalty urged in 2 slayings in ‘06
June 25, 2009 at 9:24 am | In San Diego adult entertainment | No Comments… The jury quickly realized that Mr. Rices is a very dangerous person,” McAllister said. “He deserves the death penalty.”
The prosecutor earlier told the jury that Rices’ criminal history helped justify the death penalty in this case. McAllister said Rices had been convicted in a robbery and a carjacking in 1999, two bank robberies in July 2006, and the slashing of a jail guard’s face and torso in August 2008.
Rices’ defense attorney, Mark Chambers, said he was disappointed with the jury’s decision and didn’t think the death penalty was appropriate.
Chambers said a more fitting punishment would have been life in prison without the possibility of parole.
During the trial, Chambers told the jury that Rices’ mother was a drug-addicted prostitute who taught him to steal when he was a toddler on the streets of Los Angeles.
San Diego Adult Entertainment: Residents form their own neighborhood patrols
June 25, 2009 at 9:24 am | In San Diego adult entertainment | No CommentsAbout 30 volunteers started taking turns watching the streets, usually late at night, with spotlights and two-way radios in their own cars marked by a magnetic sign with the group name, Talmadge Watch Volunteer Citizens Patrol. A year later, residential burglaries in their area had dropped 38 percent, car thefts were down 20 percent and robberies down 31 percent.
“We’ve really been successful keeping home invasions and burglaries down,” Waggonner said. “If we see suspicious persons in the neighborhood and they see us, they leave, or we call police. We’ve gotten several arrests of intoxicated individuals who were running around the neighborhood.”
Terry Shirley, who has lived on Reservoir Drive for four years with his wife, said about a dozen neighbors have started reporting abandoned cars, prostitution, loud parties and graffiti.
