First, the teen publication received a wave of letters from young women, saying, “My brother read in Rolling Stone that Elton John is bisexual. Please say it isn’t so.” Then, after the magazine published a commentary saying that, indeed, it was so and that fans should still support John, the letters stopped. According to Fields, John went from being “the No. 1 mail getter to none.”
Much has changed since then. John and his husband, David Furnish, are a high-society couple; just this week, John was serenaded by the openly gay Hollywood heartthrob Neil Patrick Harris after winning top honors at the Tony Awards.

Asking a chick to “cover” a complex, multi-layered film like District 9 is unfair and obviously expecting way too much. And let’s face it, this is an internet contest so it’s not like many chicks are going to find out about it anyway.
In spite of all that, it’s difficult to understand why, with all the “women’s lib” stuff that’s so popular these days, IGN would choose to have a contest that’s only open to the dudes. I thought for a second that perhaps the “males only” angle was meant to reflect the movie’s themes of segregation and exclusion, but then I remembered that this is IGN we’re talking about. Maybe there will be strippers?

She’s a conceptual artist who creates acts and characters based on, among other things, early madhouses (bedlam) and medieval anatomical drawings. She’s been partners for 27 years — most of them married — with another troupe member, Richard Cohen. Together, they’re responsible for my joining the circus, for about 15 seconds.
Jim Call/Sheik Maracas is the oldest member of the troupe at 61. The music, very important for this show, is his department. He was in a San Diego punk band in the late ’70s and early ’80s called the Penetrators. He specializes in what he calls “noise music,” which sounded about 75 percent music and 25 percent noise. It, and the way he mixed other music with it, struck me as just right for Zirk Ubu. Sheik Maracas limits his costume to a fez. He spends most of the night in the sound booth. His day (night) job: DJ at a strip club.
San Diego Massage Parlors: No contest plea in Archuleta sex case
June 19, 2009 at 12:36 am | In San Diego massage parlors | No CommentsSALT LAKE CITY, June 18 (UPI) — The father of Season 7 “American Idol” runner-up David Archuleta has pleaded no contest to charges he patronized a prostitute.
The no contest plea stems from James J. Archuleta’s arrest at a Utah massage parlor last January.
The Salt Lake Tribune said Wednesday the case is likely to be dismissed at the end of this month if Archuleta doesn’t repeat the offense. He reportedly has already paid a $582 fine and undergone a counseling class.
Investigators said they had been watching the massage parlor for several days after patients at a nearby doctor’s office complained. The massage parlor was issued a summons for operating without a license and Archuleta a citation for solicitation of prostitution “because he was sexually gratified by one of the masseuse girls,” the Tribune quoted police as saying.
