San Diego’s “Held Hostage” Story Premieres
Movie retells events, show emotional struggle behind the gripping storyBy Ron DonohoPosted on Fri, Jul 17th, 2009Last updated Fri, Jul 17th, 2009
Michelle Renee was a runaway teen at 15. She left to escape an abusive dad. At times she lived on the street. She did a stint as a stripper. She professes to have made a lot of bad choices along the way.
By the time she turned 20, she was ready to find structure for her life. Dental school was a bust. But at 22, she started working at Downey Savings Bank. Thirteen years later, she was an assistant vice president, regional sales manager and manager at an East Vista branch.
On November 21, 2000, the rollercoaster sped backward. Four people broke into her Bonsall home. Over a 14-hour span, the intruders threatened to pistol whip Renee and kill her 7-year-old daughter, Breea. To save their lives, Renee had to agree to go to the bank where she worked—with dynamite strapped to her back—and fill a duffel bag full of money.

San Diego Adult Entertainment: Tijuana Newspaper, Zeta Tijuana, Releases Detailed List of Day …

July 23, 2009 at 6:25 pm | In San Diego adult entertainment | No Comments

In a report published by Zeta Tijuana on July the 10th, 2009, then again in a more detailed article published on July 17th, 2009, the names, earnings and numbers of centers owned by a select group of child care families in Baja California were disclosed. “These families have dedicated their lives to caring for the children of Tijuana while their parents work. These centers are known for strict regulations, outstanding educational programs, first-class nutritional programs and impeccable safety. These day care centers are single-handedly responsible for an increase in productivity at the Maquiladoras, which drives increased revenues for the state of Baja California,” claims Grey.
Grey went on to suggest; “Tijuana is known to some as a town riddled with gangs, drug lords, corruption, childhood prostitution, smuggling and unimaginable crimes, why would a newspaper do this to one of the few remaining good businesses in Baja California? It is my belief and opinion, that this newspaper has committed a heinous act against humanity in publishing this article and must be held accountable.”

San Diego Adult Entertainment: Pat Launer on San Diego theater: ‘42nd St.,’ ‘Twist’

July 23, 2009 at 6:25 pm | In San Diego adult entertainment | No Comments

THE SHOW: “Twist,” a fresh (definitely!) new musical version of Charles Dickens’ “Oliver Twist,” with book and lyrics by Gila Sand and music by Paul Leschen with Gila Sand (additional music by Garrit Guadan), at Diversionary Theatre
Twisted Oliver. When he asks for “more,” it’s more about grueling than gruel. Handcuffs or riding crop, anyone?
Oh, my. What would the Victorian Dickens think? Though nominally a member of the Anglican Church, he did express interest in Unitarianism, so maybe his leanings were a tad more liberal. He was vilified for talking about heinous underdogs and prostitutes (he had to take the word out of the first edition). And he did a great deal for human rights. So perhaps he’d support a show based on one of his most famous novels being an official event of San Diego LGBT Pride. On the other hand, he could be rolling in his grave.

San Diego Strip Clubs: California budget deal could help Industry stadium group

July 23, 2009 at 4:48 pm | In San Diego strip clubs | No Comments

In return for the extensions, the state would get a quick infusion of cash. The law would allow the state to borrow at least $7.4 billion against future revenues. That would be made possible by a provision that would give the state 10% of the increase in property tax revenue in the redevelopment areas over those four decades.
It is unclear if the proposal is legal. To enact it, the state would need to obtain a favorable court ruling by Dec. 1.
If the proposal passes legal muster, however, it could be a substantial help for Roski, who holds 600 vacant acres in Industry near the 60 Freeway.
He has sought to build an NFL stadium there and has also talked about creating restaurants, retail centers and other attractions in the 2-mile-wide, 14-mile-long city that is home to industrial parks, scrap yards, strip clubs and fewer than 1,000 residents.

San Diego Escorts: A Walk on the Stingaree Side, Part 4

July 23, 2009 at 2:24 am | In San Diego escorts | No Comments

Bellon and Mead went to the cribs behind Cassidy’s. The “working man’s brothel” consisted of 20 board-and-batten, one-room shacks where, writes Bellon, “on a busy evening, ladies with tarnished hangovers were there to greet you.” Instead, on this Saturday morning, two of Cassidy’s enforcers, Hosterder and Pigeon, blocked their way. “No one permitted,” one said. “Private grounds.”

People began to question his intentions. “The females were nervous,” he said. “They were willing to talk, and I was willing to listen.” A large percentage of the prostitutes had come to San Diego for their health — pulmonary ailments and a fear of TB — so when Bellon announced his mission, he says, “all seemed to agree that something must be done.” He spoke of improving conditions, not moving them out.

San Diego Escorts: 7 Women Who Will Rock Comic-Con

July 23, 2009 at 2:24 am | In San Diego escorts | No Comments

Why: She’s not flesh and blood — yet — but the heroine of the Devil’s Due Publishing graphic novel series Hack/Slash puts a whip-smart feminist edge on the sex ‘n’ violence formula that has Hollywood studios circling for the right to take Cassie (pictured top, image courtesy Devil’s Due) from page to screen. When: Thursday, July 23, 6 p.m. Where: Devil’s Due panel, Room 8, attended by creator Tim Steeley.
Megan Fox
Why: Not only did she inject the wacky Transformers movies with a welcome jolt of sex appeal, but Fox hints at damned good comedy chops in the Diablo Cody-penned vampire romp Jennifer’s Body (trailer above). Plus she gets to wreak revenge as ex-prostitute Leila in next summer’s comic book adaptation of Jonah Hex. Fox wanted to be a comic book artist when she was a kid, and she’s actually pretty good, judging from her superhero sketches of late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel, seen on TV last month.

San Diego Escorts: A whole new world and a working holiday

July 23, 2009 at 2:24 am | In San Diego escorts | No Comments

I don’t hide my geek light under a bushel. Never have. I’m used to being the pedant arguing about whether Han shot first, why odd numbered Star Trek films are better than even ones, and why Nu Who owes more to US genre show than the old style show that bears it names. I firmly believe geek is chic, and I’m used to being one of the geekiest people in the room. But this week I am in geek Nirvana. Nerd Mecca. The Holy Land. And I am a little frightened to find I am one of the least geeky people here.
Every summer 140,000 geeks descend on San Diego, California for Comic Con. It is a massive event, where the great and the good of comics (obviously) but also TV, films and merchandise come to pimp their wares to a giddy and keen mass of geeks stepping out into the sunshine. It is mind-blowingly massive.
