San Diego Adult Entertainment: Journalism noir meets San Diego’s labor history in “Flash” by Jim Miller
April 28, 2011 at 2:13 pm | In San Diego adult entertainment | No CommentsThe main payoff in “Flash” is its deep dive into San Diego’s Free Speech Fights. Through glimpses into the life of a hypothetical rank-and-file IWW member from that era, Miller transports the reader to a time when the Gaslamp Quarter was known as the Stingeree and police would crack down on anyone who got up on a soap box and called for workers to unite.
“(The book) looks back at the many parallels between then and the present,” Miller said.
With labor-related issues getting more and more press today, Miller’s timing couldn’t be better. He calls recent workers-rights protests in Wisconsin “the single most hopeful” political development in the last few years, and his respect for working men and women shines in “Flash.”
The book describes the Stingeree in 1912 as a diverse, working-class neighborhood “full of shops, saloons, cheap hotels, gambling houses, opium dens, and prostitutes … it sounded a lot more fun back in the day than it is now — unless you’re looking for a bad cover band or an overpriced cheese plate.”

April 25, 2011 at 3:36 am | In San Diego escorts | No CommentsCity authorities blame the violence since late last year on street gangs fighting over an increasingly lucrative local drug market, which has grown dramatically the past decade. Some of the high-profile violence comes from groups that are remnants of the Beltran Leyva cartel, which has splintered and moved closer to the city since Mexican marines killed leader Arturo Beltran Leyva in December 2009. Some of the gangs are imitating brutal cartel tactics seeking to gain turf.
Meanwhile in Acapulco, police said they were not ruling out drug or organized crime links possibly related to prostitution in the killings of four women and a 14-year-old girl whose bodies were found Saturday.
All five worked at a beauty parlor in a neighborhood known for prostitution and drug dealing, the chief of detectives for the Guerrero state police told The Associated Press on Sunday.

San Diego Strip Clubs: Prosecutors want prison now for Ralph Inzunza
April 22, 2011 at 4:12 am | In San Diego strip clubs | No CommentsThe former councilman was sentenced to 21 months in prison in November 2005, but has been free on bail since then pending his appeal. The motion by prosecutors came nine days after the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which had upheld those convictions in a 2009 ruling, turned down Inzunza’s bid for a new hearing.
Then on Tuesday the court granted a request from Inzunza’s lawyer to suspend the effect of that ruling to allow time to file a request to the U.S. Supreme Court to take the case. Prosecutors opposed the move, but the court gave Inzunza two months to file the request for review by the high court.
Inzunza was convicted of trading political favors to the owner of a strip club in return for campaign contributions.

SAN DIEGO — The federal government is moving to revoke bail for former San Diego City Councilman Ralph Inzunza, who was convicted in 2005 of accepting bribes from a Las Vegas strip club owner.
A jury convicted Inzunza and former Councilman Michael Zucchet in July 2005 of accepting bribes from Las Vegas strip club owner Michael Galardi, who had business interests in San Diego and was seeking to overturn the city’s so-called “no-touch” ordinance, which prohibits contact between exotic dancers and patrons at adult entertainment venues.
Zucchet was later acquitted on all but two charges.
Inzunza was initially sentenced to 21 months in prison in November 2005, but had been free on bail pending an appeal of his conviction.

April 21, 2011 at 8:24 pm | In San Diego escorts | No CommentsLONDON (AP) – A topless model has juicy details of a six-month affair with a married soccer star. A prostitute wants to dish the dirt about a sex romp with a British actor.
But British courts have gagged the women and journalists from reporting the lurid details or the men’s identities.
The cases are the latest in a series of British court orders issued to protect the privacy of public figures – usually men involved in extramarital affairs.
…
In another recent case, Justice Nicholas Blake issued a gagging order that blocked a prostitute from revealing details about her alleged romp with a well-known married British actor who’s been in at least one blockbuster film. (Yes, we know who it is but can’t tell you.)
The actor’s name has appeared on several websites since the injunction was granted. The same prostitute also allegedly had sex with England soccer star Wayne Rooney.

San Diego Escorts: Ramona Hunks Show Off Their Stuff to Raise Awareness for Human Trafficking
April 20, 2011 at 3:36 pm | In San Diego escorts | No CommentsWell Ramona’s Soroptimists issued a 2011 calendar called Ramona Cowboy Hunks. Just like Calendar Girls, this is a true story about local people daring to bare just a bit for a good cause. They’d heard about a local woman dealing with cancer and they wanted to help. The money raised also goes to one of their prime goals: raising awareness about human trafficking, which includes the kidnapping of young children for prostitution for gang revenue. The problem of human trafficking is on the increase in San Diego County, according to a new piece of legislation authored by State Assemblyman Marty Block and backed by several law enforcement agencies. It is thought to be the second highest source of revenue for gangs. A major bust took place recently at an Oceanside motel, for example.

San Diego Escorts: RACKETEERING PROBE LEADS TO ARREST OF SAN DIEGO-AREA GANG MEMBERS FOR SEX …
April 19, 2011 at 6:00 pm | In San Diego escorts | No CommentsThe indictment further alleges that, in recent years, the Enterprise
has increasingly focused its for-profit criminal activity on promoting
and managing prostitution in San Diego County and throughout the United
States. The gang-controlled prostitution spawned a “pimping” subculture
that enforced strict rules with consequences for individuals who
violated them.
“The indictment unsealed today targets a growing problem in San Diego
County and across the country – street gangs like the Crips expanding
traditional gang activities (drug trafficking and violent crime) to
include prostitution,” said U.S. Attorney Laura Duffy. “I cannot state
this more emphatically: I regard the kind of prostitution involved in
this case, including the trafficking of children via the Internet,
social networking sites and local business, as a form of modern-day
slavery to which every available law enforcement resource will be
applied. I commend the work of our federal, state, and local law
enforcement partners for their dedication and commitment to this case.”
…
After recruiting the prostitutes, the Enterprise “pimps” allegedly
provided victims with controlled substances and alcohol in order to
manipulate their loyalty and increase productivity related to
prostitution. Once the victims became dependent on the “pimps,” they
were sometimes sold, traded or “gifted” to other “pimps.”
