San Diego Adult Entertainment: Awlaki Arrested With Prostitutes in ’90s

September 30, 2011 at 11:49 pm | In San Diego adult entertainment | No Comments

Is this the news anyone expected to hear? American-born radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who was killed early Friday in a drone strike in Yemen, was arrested twice in the 1990s for patronizing prostitutes. Awlaki, who has been said to either have been the main influence or mastermind of a half-dozen terrorist plots against the U.S. and its allies, has called his years in San Diego “uneventful.” He was a graduate student at San Diego State, and he preached at a mosque in La Mesa, where he reportedly met two students who became Sept. 11 hijackers. But he also was arrested twice and convicted for soliciting prostitutes. In August 1996, Awlaki paid a $400 fine and was ordered to attend an AIDS awareness seminar and in April 1997, he paid a $240 fine and was sentenced to community service.

San Diego Adult Entertainment: Radical cleric killed by drone was twice arrested with prostitutes in San Diego

September 30, 2011 at 11:49 pm | In San Diego adult entertainment | No Comments

… Anwar Awlaki, the American-born cleric and jihadist killed by a U.S.-backed drone strike in Yemen, spent several years in San Diego but was gone before the Sept. 11 attacks.
He once told a reporter that his years in San Diego were “uneventful”: a stint as a graduate student at San Diego State, some preaching at a small mosque in La Mesa, and a friendship with two students from Saudi Arabia who were later among the 9/11 hijackers.
What he didn’t mention were two arrests and misdemeanor convictions for soliciting prostitutes along the infamous street-walker strip of El Cajon Boulevard.
In August 1996, Awlaki paid a $400 fine and was ordered to attend an AIDS awareness seminar. In April 1997, he paid a $240 fine and was sentenced to community service.

San Diego Adult Entertainment: Crime-ridden street now a memory

Rogelio Ramirez says his family is thrilled to be living in their apartment in The Crossings at Escondido, a new affordable housing project in what once was a crime-infested area of Escondido. Fred Greaves
Five three-story buildings are painted in warm earth tones and surrounded by lush lawns and security gates controlled by residents’ individual codes. Features such as tot lots and porch lights are intended to make the apartments feel like home.
The quiet complex, whose residents earn 30 percent to 60 percent of the median area income, belies the cul-de-sac’s unpleasant history.
The Crossings opened on a street called Mission Grove Place in Mission Park, the poorest neighborhood in the city. The developer, Santa Ana-based Urban Housing Communities, wanted a fresh start and asked the city for permission to change the street’s name from Elder Place, which was well-known for decay, overcrowding, gangs, prostitution, assaults and vandalism.

San Diego Escorts: San Diego Worshipers Remember Awlaki As Spiritual Orator Who Connected With …

September 30, 2011 at 8:25 pm | In San Diego escorts | No Comments

A one-time congregation member of former La Mesa cleric Anwar Al-Awlaki described him as a well-loved imam who mysteriously went astray.
There are two portraits of Awlaki’s time in San Diego: beloved imam, and spiritual adviser to terrorists.
One worshipper, who attended Awlaki’s sermons at the Al-Ribat Mosque in La Mesa, says Awlaki was popular because of his talks on the importance of connecting with God and his oratory skills in English and Arabic.
But intelligence officials say Awlaki acted as a spiritual coach to the two San Diego-based September 11th hijackers, preparing their minds for the attacks. The Muslim holy man may have had his weaknesses. San Diego police arrested him twice for soliciting prostitutes.
Edgar Hopida of the San Diego Council on American Islamic Relations condemned Awlaki’s espousal of violent jihad but says the U.S. government should not have killed him.

San Diego Escorts: in depthThe recruiter: Anwar al-Awlaki, portrait of an American jihadist

Prostitutes and other indulgences
Al-Awlaki’s ability to speak the Arabic language and to quote the Qur’an and the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad, coupled with his charismatic style of delivery, made him a darling in his own community and a much sought after speaker at Islamic conferences in North America and Europe.

Perhaps investigators didn’t think an imam who had been charged twice for indulging in prostitution in San Diego, and who had been sentenced to community service and forced to take AIDS awareness courses as a result, could be a committed jihadist.
The FBI had tracked al-Awlaki in the Washington area, where he entertained prostitutes, and they considered arresting him again, but decided against it. By that point, al-Awlaki must have been aware the police were keeping an eye on him.

When I asked his San Diego admirers about the prostitution charges, they laughed and accused me of being naïve to believe “any of that nonsense.”

San Diego Escorts: " Breitbart May be Pulled into ACORN-Related San Diego Lawsuit Against O’Keefe …

On the other hand, the “paper of record” New York Times is still unable to do similar. Even though we’d already forced a number of other corrections to their repeated misreporting on this, they’ve still managed to misreport the facts of O’Keefe’s ACORN “pimp” hoax as recently as late last June and then again in late July.
So, to offer you (and, actually, the New York Times) an idea, of what accurate reporting on O’Keefe — a man who has, since his ACORN con, also pled guilty to a scheme involving an attempted wire-tap plot of a sitting U.S. Senator — looks like, just read the first three grafs of Johnson’s coverage this week…
Many media reports characterized O’Keefe as posing as a pimp since he wore “stereotypical 1970s pimp garb” in the opening and closing scenes of certain videos he released, but he wore a shirt and tie in the actual encounters, identifying himself as Giles’ concerned boyfriend, according to the California Attorney General’s Office.

Pseudo-Journalist Must Produce Video Footage
SAN DIEGO (CN) – Activist and pseudo-journalist James O’Keefe must produce video footage and other communication in a discovery dispute connected to an invasion of privacy suit filed by an employee of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), a federal judge ruled.
The lawsuit stems from an attempted video “sting” conducted by O’Keefe, accompanied by defendant Hanna Giles, dressed as a prostitute.
The duo visited the ACORN office in National City, Calif., wearing a hidden camera. O’Keefe recorded audio and video of his visit, which included an allegedly “confidential” conversation with plaintiff Juan Carlos Vera.

San Diego Escorts: The Many Forms of Sex Trafficking in Central America

September 30, 2011 at 8:25 pm | In San Diego escorts | No Comments

Sex trafficking is not just a purely economic phenomenon, however. Some victims are drawn into the trade due to more complex reasons, and then are psychologically conditioned into staying. As InSight Crime has documented, such is the case in Honduras, where young women are increasingly falling prey to false “modeling agencies” which serve as fronts for sex trafficking rings. Seeing an opportunity to fulfill aspirations of fame, young women contact the organizations, when they are often told to arrange an in-person “audition,” alone. From there, a cycle of psychological and physical abuse begins, and these women are often kidnapped or tricked into working in brothels in other Central American countries.
Elsewhere in Central America, human trafficking is more closely associated with tourism, especially “sex tourism,” whereby individuals (generally wealthy North American or European men) travel to a country with the explicit purpose of purchasing sex, frequently with minors. This trend is particularly visible in Costa Rica, which is a major tourist destination. Although efforts have been made t …

Published: Sept. 30, 2011 at 2:25 PM
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 30 (UPI) — San Diego authorities said a North Park neighborhood building owner agreed to evict medical-marijuana dispensaries and massage parlors.
San Diego City Attorney Jan Goldsmith said the owner of the building, at 4009-4010 Park Blvd., agreed to evict four medical marijuana dispensaries and a dozen massage parlors after authorities determined the businesses were violating zoning laws, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.
Police said they believe the marijuana businesses were the cause of recent increases in traffic, loitering and public cannabis smoking in the area.
Goldsmith said the building owner agreed to pay $10,000 in civil penalties without admitting liability.
