San Diego Adult Entertainment: Convicted serial killer pleads not guilty in deaths of five Southern Cali women

According to a KTLA report, Andrew Urdiales, 47, a former marine who was already on death row in Illinois, was extradited to Orange County late last year in connection with the Jan. 18, 1986 murder of 23-year old Robbin Brandley. Brandley, who was on her way home from a concert, was stabbed 41 times during a robbery attempt in a Saddleback College parking lot.
Urdiales is also being tried in Orange County for the slayings of four other women – Julie McGhee, Maryann Wells, Tammie Erwin and Denise Maney – whose bodies were found in Riverside and San Diego counties over a seven-year period starting in 1988. According to authorities, the four women were involved in prostitution at the time of their deaths.

We’re actually all kind of history nerds in our own way. When we played the Bouquet, we actually got to go into the upper floors of the building. It was great. It was creepy, though. I’m actually a bit of a ghost nerd. We did a gig at this place in Tennessee, in Knoxville – the Bijou Theatre – the oldest theatre in Tennessee. It was used as a hospital during the Civil War, and later as a brothel, and a bunch of other stuff. The front is a four-story building, and the theatre is behind that. The upper stories haven’t been renovated at all, but the theatre has been completely redone. I was talking to the management about it being haunted, and they said, “Oh, yeah, everyone here has seen stuff and had experiences with ghosts”. The general manager actually took me up into the un-renovated floors and showed me the whole brothel area and everything. It was insane!

The lawsuit claimed that certain provisions of the law intended to curb corruption violated their rights to free speech.
Gonzalez’s ruling does not glaze over San Diego’s sordid political history. “In this case, the record sufficiently demonstrates corruption in the San Diego municipal government,” she wrote, citing the yellow cab scandal in which the city raised taxi rates for campaign contributions.
”Then, in 1985, San Diego Mayor Roger Hedgecock resigned after being convicted of concealing illegal campaign contributions,” Gonzalez continued. “In 2001, City Council member Valerie Stallings resigned after pleading guilty to corruption charge. Most recently, three City Council members were indicted on fraud and conspiracy counts involving channeling campaign contributions from the adult entertainment industry in exchange for an agreement to repeal the no-touch laws in strip clubs.”

The muted hearing in front of Miller capped one of the city’s most infamous political corruption cases. Inzunza was charged along with then-Councilmen Michael Zucchet and Charles Lewis, strip-club owner Michael Galardi and Las Vegas strip-club lobbyist Lance Malone.
Inzunza was convicted in July 2005 of extortion, honest services wire fraud and conspiracy for trading political favors for campaign contributions from Galardi, then-owner of the Cheetah’s strip club in San Diego and several clubs in Las Vegas.

As far as visual spectacles go, the Adult Entertainment Expo is in a league of its own. It’s an X-rated world of boobs and butts, skimpy dresses and high heels, where very little, if anything, is left to the imagination.
So how does a photographer for a family-oriented newspaper like the Las Vegas Sun tell a visual story about the largest adult entertainment expo in the world that’s actually fit to print?

SAN DIEGO — A former San Diego city councilman convicted in 2005 of taking bribes from a Las Vegas strip club owner seeking to overturn San Diego’s “no-touch” ordinance must begin serving his 21-month prison sentence by the end of the month, a judge ruled Friday.
Earlier this month, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear the appeal of ex-councilman Ralph Inzunza, who was convicted in July 2005 of extortion, wire fraud and conspiracy. He was sentenced five months later by U.S. District Court Judge Jeffrey Miller.

Two other San Diego city councilmen, Michael Zucchet and Charles Lewis, were also indicted in the case, along with Cheetah’s strip club owner Michael Galardi and his lobbyist, Lance Malone.

After the verdict, Inzunza vowed to fight to reverse the conviction.
For six years, he filed appeal after appeal until his final appeal was denied Jan. 6.
At a court hearing Friday Inzunza was ordered to surrender at the U.S. federal prison in Atwater, in Merced County, no later than Jan. 30 at 9 a.m.
He will serve a 21 month sentence at the minimum security prison camp, with a possible 15 percent reduction for good behavior.
He may also be allowed to serve the end portion of that sentence in a half-way house.

Galardi was the owner of Cheetah’s, one of a dozen strip clubs and topless bars in his family’s $45 million adult entertainment empire.
