San Diego Strip Clubs: Del Rey/Playa Vista: Communities get lost in Council District 11 redistricting …

February 16, 2012 at 1:12 pm | In San Diego strip clubs | No Comments

… It does not appear to make sense to divide up the community in this way at all,” he said. “I am not sure how many folks realize that Playa Vista was on the radar to be moved to a new district, but I signed Rosendahl’s petition and know that the local neighborhood council is very committed to this issue, including all areas in the neighborhood council district, which of course includes Playa Vista.”
Donell was referring to an online petition that the councilman’s office began for residents to voice their opinions about the redistricting proposal.
The Playa Vista Farmers Market would also go to Council District Eight.
Redick, who owns property in Del Rey, also worries that the Mesmer Triangle could be the target of businesses that many in Del Rey feel are not conducive to the neighborhood. Several years ago, a strip club called the Silhouette sought to set up shop in the light industrial triangle while Redick was on the Del Rey council.

San Diego Strip Clubs: Ralph Inzunza’s newest legal manuever

February 10, 2012 at 10:12 pm | In San Diego strip clubs | No Comments

Inzunza was convicted in November 2005 of honest-services fraud, extortion under color of official right and conspiracy in connection with the so-called “Stripper-Gate” corruption scandal. He exhausted the appeals process in January of this year, but now Inzunza’s attorneys are trying a different tactic: Attacking the sentence, citing recent decisions in other cases, including one that lifted the conviction of Brent Wilkes, a contractor accused of bribery in the Duke Cunningham case.
Inzunza says he deserves a new trial but would settle for a new sentencing hearing. He thinks his prison term should be reduced from 21 months to six months in prison and six months of home detention.

The court filing also includes a 2010 declaration from John D’Intino, manager of Cheetah’s strip club, who was also charged in the case and whose statements helped convict Inzunza. D’Intino now says that he knew he was facing a long sentence on an unrelated weapons charge, and that made him susceptible to pressure from the prosecution.

San Diego Strip Clubs: A Guide to Ralph Inzunza’s Life in Prison

A Guide to Ralph Inzunza’s Life in Prison By Matt Potter | Posted February 6, 2012, 10:47 a.m.
Former San Diego city councilman Ralph Inzunza is finally behind bars, the only council defendant to go to prison in the city’s Cheetahs strip club bribery scandal that grew out of the role of then-city attorney Casey Gwinn, son of a Congregational minister and born-again Christian, and others in passing a law barring nude entertainers from giving lap dances.
As we documented almost a decade ago in May 2002, national anti-strip club crusaders out of Cincinnati, Ohio lobbied for the so-called six-foot rule and the result became history–and ultimately bad news for Inzunza.
Taken into federal custody at the end of last month, Inzunza is being housed at the United States Penitentiary in Atwater, an institution located on a former part of Castle Air Force Base, about 130 miles southwest of San Francisco in the San Joaquin Valley.

San Diego Strip Clubs: Judge Axes Donation Cap to San Diego Politicians

January 23, 2012 at 10:12 pm | In San Diego strip clubs | No Comments

… Former Republican city council candidate Phil Thalheimer, the Republican Party of San Diego and business political action committee The Lincoln Club of San Diego brought their legal challenge to the city’s campaign finance laws in December 2009. The lawsuit claimed that certain provisions of the law intended to curb corruption violated their rights to free speech.
Gonzalez’s ruling does not glaze over San Diego’s sordid political history. “In this case, the record sufficiently demonstrates corruption in the San Diego municipal government,” she wrote, citing the yellow cab scandal in which the city raised taxi rates for campaign contributions.
”Then, in 1985, San Diego Mayor Roger Hedgecock resigned after being convicted of concealing illegal campaign contributions,” Gonzalez continued. “In 2001, City Council member Valerie Stallings resigned after pleading guilty to corruption charge. Most recently, three City Council members were indicted on fraud and conspiracy counts involving channeling campaign contributions from the adult entertainment industry in exchange for an agreement to repeal the no-touch laws in strip clubs.”

San Diego Strip Clubs: Inzuna told to report to prison by Jan. 30 Inzunza to prison jan. 30

January 22, 2012 at 7:12 pm | In San Diego strip clubs | No Comments

Once a rising star in local Democratic politics, Inzunza said nothing during the hearing, sitting with his hands folded in front of him at a table in the courtroom. More than a dozen supporters filled the seats behind him.
Inzunza waved off a reporter afterward and quickly walked by news cameras staked out on the plaza in front of the downtown federal courthouse into a car waiting on Front Street.
The muted hearing in front of Miller capped one of the city’s most infamous political corruption cases. Inzunza was charged along with then-Councilmen Michael Zucchet and Charles Lewis, strip-club owner Michael Galardi and Las Vegas strip-club lobbyist Lance Malone.
Inzunza was convicted in July 2005 of extortion, honest services wire fraud and conspiracy for trading political favors for campaign contributions from Galardi, then-owner of the Cheetah’s strip club in San Diego and several clubs in Las Vegas.

San Diego Strip Clubs: AVN Day Two: The expo through the eyes of a photographer

As far as visual spectacles go, the Adult Entertainment Expo is in a league of its own. It’s an X-rated world of boobs and butts, skimpy dresses and high heels, where very little, if anything, is left to the imagination.
So how does a photographer for a family-oriented newspaper like the Las Vegas Sun tell a visual story about the largest adult entertainment expo in the world that’s actually fit to print?

And as far as images that are different: “You see lots of women on stripper poles, but you don’t see a lot who are wearing a sombrero and braces.” (Yes, she snapped a photo.)
