San Diego Adult Entertainment: Old hotel site to house recovering addicts
March 4, 2010 at 4:37 am | In San Diego adult entertainment | No CommentsPathfinders operated a similar facility on University Avenue near 30th Street but had to leave when the owner decided to redevelop the property. Pathfinders financed the purchase and renovation of the two-story hotel and a nearby building (which will be an office and meeting place) with loans totaling $4 million from the San Diego Housing Commission and the city’s Redevelopment Agency.
The new facility, which is in a blighted section of University Avenue, appears to have strong community support and little opposition.
“It will be much better use of that property, much better than what it was used for the past 20 years,” said Arthur Schwartz, who lives nearby. The North Park Inn for years was the subject of neighborhood complaints about drugs and prostitution. “There was more action than you can see on the Internet,” Schwartz said. In the year before the renovations, police received 108 calls about activity on the block where the hotel was located, according to city officials.
