San Diego Adult Entertainment: Penalty phase delayed for murderous ex-marine
November 25, 2009 at 3:13 am | In San Diego adult entertainment | No CommentsDue to the Thanksgiving holiday, jurors in the Derlyn Ray Threats case will be off until Monday morning, when they will resume deliberations at the Vista Courthouse.
Threats, 28, was convicted Nov. 13 by the same jury of first-degree murder, robbery and burglary charges, along with special circumstance allegations of murder during a robbery, murder during a burglary and murder by torture.
In the penalty phase, jurors heard from the 10-year-old son of victim Carolyn Neville, who said in videotaped testimony that he tries not to think about his mother too much because he doesn’t want to cry.
The defendant’s mother, Cynthia Allen, testified that she had been a crack addict, alcoholic and prostitute who sometimes beat her son because “he got in the way.” Allen said her son means everything to her and begged the jury to spare his life.
