A sheriff’s detective testified yesterday that he made one of the biggest mistakes of his life when he picked up an admitted prostitute while on duty two years ago and drove her to a parking lot in Mission Valley.
Thomas John Sadler, 49, said he changed his mind before any sexual activity took place and identified himself as a deputy sheriff. His mind racing, he began to look for a way to get out of the situation.
“This is just stupid,” Sadler said he thought to himself. “What am I doing here?”
He said he never fondled or undressed the woman, but did search her jacket and purse for drugs. Eventually, they struggled over her cell phone, when Sadler saw the woman trying to take a photograph of his license plate.
