San Diego Escorts: Jurors reach verdict in deputy sex assault case

Jury finds veteran San Diego deputy guilty of assaulting prostitute

SAN DIEGO (AP) – A jury has convicted a San Diego sheriff’s detective of assaulting a prostitute but acquitted him of sexual assaulting her.
Thomas Sadler was convicted of felony assault and battery by a peace officer, misdemeanor assault and false imprisonment.
Deputy District Attorney Jeffrey Dort said during the trial that Sadler had planned to sexually assault the prostitute during a drug search on Feb. 6, 2008.
Sadler’s attorney Mary Ellen Attridge, however, said the prostitute got into the 49-year-old Sadler’s car on her own, but the detective then changed his mind about having sex with her.
Sadler, a 20-year sheriff’s deputy, faces up to three years in prison when he is sentenced in April.
