Immigration drops:  Apparently deterred by rising unemployment in the United State, the number of Mexican immigrants who crossed the border dropped sharply in the past year to the lowest level in a decade, even while undocumented workers already in the United States are opting to stay. The analysis of census data from both the U.S. and Mexican governments was released Wednesday by the Pew Hispanic Center. The study found that immigrants arriving from Mexico fell nearly 60 percent from March 2008 to March 2009.
New VW sedan:  Volkswagen said it will begin manufacturing a new compact sedan at its plant in Puebla, with a launch date of 2010. President Calderón said it would be called “The Car of the Bicentennial.” Next year marks the 200th anniversary of Mexico’s cry for independence from Spain.
Arrest in wrestlers’ deaths:  A woman was arrested in the deaths of two professional dwarf wrestlers, who died after being poisoned in a Mexico City hotel in June. Authorities said Estela “The Aunt” González, 65, was one of two suspected prostitutes believed to have poisoned brothers Alberto and Alejandro Jiménez, known as “Parkita” and “Espectrito Jr.”
